A Primer on the American Jewish Community

A Primer on the American Jewish Community

Jerome Chanes

The United States offers the Jewish Diaspora the most welcoming, open society in Diaspora history but it is not problem-free; it faces low birth-rates and high mixed-marriage rates so that the number of Jews has reached a plateau and the percentage is decreasing. The American Jewish community has responded to these problems by establishing a vast network of social, defense, and educational institutions. This primer offers a map of the network and an analysis of these institutions’ structures and agendas.
