AJC Condemns Bombings of Iraqi Churches

August 1, 2004

August 1, 2004 -  NEW YORK - The American Jewish Committee, a leader in interfaith relations, is appalled by the bombing attacks on five churches in Iraq that left at least 11 dead and 50 wounded.

"Christians already are a persecuted minority in much of the Arab world," said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris. "The coordinated, fatal attacks on houses of worship are especially disturbing, and raise the specter of Islamist threats against Christians in Iraq to a new and much more dangerous level."
