AJC Condemns Terror Attack in India

September 25, 2002 -  WASHINGTON -- The American Jewish Committee is strongly condemning the terrorist attack on the Swaminarayan Temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat State, India, in which more than 30 innocent people were killed and more than 100 were injured.
The American Jewish Committee issued the following statement:

"This was a cowardly attack with the purpose of undermining democracy, terrorizing an entire population and destabilizing the multi-ethnic social fabric of Indian society. This act underscores the continuing threat of global terrorism to democracies around the world."

"The American Jewish Committee pledges its solidarity to the government and people of India. We will continue to work closely with the Indian government and other democratic countries to counter the threat of terrorism."
