June 12, 2006 – New York – The American Jewish Committee is offering its employees across the United States an incentive to purchase or lease fuel-efficient, environmentally-friendly vehicles. AJC’s Fuel-Efficient Vehicle Bonus Program is believed to be the first offer of its kind to employees of any non-profit organization in the U.S.
“Our car-buying incentive initiative is integral to AJC’s long-term commitment to developing a serious energy policy in the U.S.,” said AJC Executive Director David A. Harris in announcing the program. “By encouraging our employees to first look other energy-efficient models such as hybrids, we hope other organizations will join us in recognizing that sound choices are available that can contribute to reducing America’s dependence on imported oil from hostile nations, a dependency that threatens our national security, and helping our environment.”
Harris announced the program in a memo to AJC, and in his national radio message broadcast on the CBS radio network during the Osgood File, which reaches tens of millions of listeners.
AJC maintains its headquarters in New York and 32 offices across the U.S. Employees who qualify will be entitled to receive bonus payments of $2,500 or $1,500, depending on the vehicle model.
Qualifying cars for the program include the Toyota Prius, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight, Ford Escape Hybrid, Mercury Mariner Hybrid, Mazda Tribute Hybrid, Mazda 3, Saturn Ion, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Ford Focus Compact Car and Ford Focus Wagon.
