I began doing these radio spots seven years ago.

Greater energy independence has been a regular theme.

Initially, the reaction was mixed.

While some listeners said “amen,” others were angry.

It’s no one’s business what I drive, said some.

Others said there’s no link between energy and national security.

No more.

Today everyone knows we’re in a fix and need a way out. Seven years ago, no one had a plan. Today everyone does.

Greater energy independence won’t happen just by a snap of the finger. But we can make it happen – with ingenuity and determination.

Good things are starting.

Utah now has thousands of cars that run on natural gas. The fuel is cheaper, the emissions cleaner.

And look at car ads. Suddenly, every company knows we want gas misers, not guzzlers.

America, we can achieve our goal. Greater energy independence means stronger national security, a better economy, and a healthier environment.
