Our Energy Security Initiatives

AJC national radio message
August 10, 2011 – New York – AJC Executive Director David Harris, in his national radio commentary, speaks about AJC pioneering initiatives to further energy security and to improve the environment.

“At AJC, we strive to be among those who make things happen,” says Harris.

They say there are three kinds of people -- those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

At AJC, we strive to be among those who make things happen.

Take energy security, one of our nation's overriding challenges.

Our dependence on oil from countries hostile to us has spelled trouble for years.

AJC became the first non-profit agency to offer staff cash incentives to buy fuel-efficient vehicles. Others have followed our example.

Or take the environment. We have one planet, it's fragile, and we're only stewards, not owners, of it.

AJC recently received LEED Gold certification for our headquarters. In our case, that means we've retrofitted a 50-year-old building and created a green, sustainable space.

Now we've sharply reduced energy and water use, and we're recycling the bulk of our waste.

In other words, AJC wants to make things happen -- and thereby help create a better world.
