The Coordinator provides support to the Director of Asia Pacific Institute (API), organizes and coordinates high-level political and diplomatic meetings in New York and overseas, conducts research and manages projects and programs key to the success of API and AJC and provides general administrative support to the Director of API. The Coordinator does all this while adhering to AJC’s core values: Respect, Teamwork, Integrity, Excellence, and Accountability.

The API Coordinator works closely with the Director of API by helping coordinate the highest level diplomatic and political outreach both in the US and overseas, managing programs and projects, and providing general administrative support. The position requires research and writing. This position requires fluency in Mandarin. Working and/or living experience in Asia a plus, as is facility with additional Asian language.

Specific responsibilities include:

Diplomatic Coordination

  • Conceptualize and work on initiatives to promote strong US-China-Israel relationship
  • Assist with development of high level contacts with AP government, think tank, educational organizations and businesses
  • Primary responsibility for cultivating and maintaining strong relationship with China
  • Coordinate overseas missions including meetings, logistics and pre- and post-mission budgeting
  • Provide support for diplomatic and political outreach, including research and writing as needed
  • Assist in recruiting speakers/dinner hosts for annual Global Forum
  • Assists with facilitating and securing meetings for annual Diplomatic Marathon
  • Assist in liaising with diplomatic contacts of AP countries
  • National and International travel required, particularly as relates to China responsibilities
Project and Program Management
  • Support various API activities, fundraising, board development and engagement
  • Organize and coordinate visits by senior agency officials and of API and Project Interchange coordinated overseas missions;
  • API intern supervision
  • Special projects as assigned, including international research and liaison responsibilities.
Administrative Support
  • General administrative support including maintenance of director’s calendar and internal and external information/communication networks
  • Support various API activities, fundraising, board development and engagement
  • General correspondence, including written and direct diplomatic, political and institutional (lay and staff) contacts
  • Materials preparation and note-taking for meetings, conferences and international missions
  • Liaison with and support Board of Directors
  • An undergraduate degree is required. Masters preferred.
  • Mandarin language fluency required
  • Knowledgeable and interested in Asia Pacific geo-political affairs and global diplomacy. Academic background and/or working experience in same strongly preferred.
  • Foreign experience (Asia) a plus
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in an office environment
  • Capacity to work on multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and set priorities
  • Strong ability to multi-task and handle frequently shifting agendas
  • Superior written, verbal, listening and communication skills
  • Very detail oriented
  • A demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards and values consistent with those of AJC
