Coordinator, Leadership Development & Board Engagement

Overarching goals of this department are to develop and enhance a comprehensive and systematic leadership program, to work with regions on identifying leaders for such opportunities and to create alumni networks and foster community.

This position is ideal for someone who is extremely detail-oriented, ambitious, talented, thoughtful, passionate about global Jewish advocacy, and eager to be immersed in organizational and leadership development at the highest levels. The successful candidate must be entrepreneurial and be comfortable taking initiative in a fast-paced working environment. S/he must be a self-starting team player, who can work collaboratively with colleagues, but will also work very independently. Program planning and project management experience is necessary. Knowledge of and familiarity with social media, databases and other standard programs is required. Fluency in all functions of Excel and all Microsoft Office programs is a must.

Position Responsibilities:

The Coordinator for the Department of Leadership Development and Board Engagement will work directly with the department’s Director and is responsible for:
  • Providing strategic, logistical and administrative assistance for all of AJC’s leadership programs, as well as for the National Board of Governors and other national committees, commissions and special task forces.
  • Assisting in the planning of Board of Governors (BoG) meetings, communicating with lay leaders, coordinating efforts with national commissions and committees, preparing agendas and materials, and working with a logistics team to ensure the best possible experience for our leadership.
  • Identifying alumni opportunities and developing networks for select programs (this includes the publishing of communications to various alumni groups).
  • Coordinating efforts with national commissions and committees, including updating databases and tracking lay engagement.
  • Providing lay leaders with best possible lay experience, including “platinum service” for our members through direct oral and written communication.
  • Conceptualizing topics, coordinating logistics and drafting communications for BoG Issue briefing calls.
  • Tracking BoG engagement opportunities and helping to match interests
  • Developing and overseeing a dashboard of leadership development metrics
  • Coordinating the recruitment and nominating process for all leadership opportunities.
  • Drafting and sending letters to leadership regarding the status of their board or committee membership.
  • Supporting both the National Leadership Development Committee and the national Nominating Committee and its initiatives (maintaining membership and attendance lists, taking minutes, creating necessary tracking systems and communicating with committee members on a regular basis).
  • Participating in Committee meetings and conference calls, preparing notes and sharing assignments within the relevant committees.
  • Working with relevant national AJC experts on programmatic initiatives involving the BoG.
  • Overseeing the preparation and maintenance of the annual BoG “Face” Directory.
  • Creating and sustaining social media opportunities for Board of Governors members, as well as alumni groups.
  • Working to improve the Board of Governors portal to, online calendars, relevant databases (such as Raiser’s Edge), etc.
  • Administrative tasks including: preparation of project binders and materials in advance of programs, basic budget recording, keeping electronic/paper filing organized and efficient, database use, letter drafting and mail merges, formatting documents, scheduling for the department, taking notes and typing them up and other tasks as assigned.
  • Special projects as assigned, including those related to the AJC Global Forum and those assisting the Director and the team in other tasks or projects.

Additional requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1-3 years’ experience in some of the following strongly preferred: program/event planning, donor relations, project management and communications
  • Administrative work experience is required
  • Travel to NY for Board meetings required 4x/year for a few days at a time
  • Some weekend and evening work required
  • Must be highly proficient in the full Microsoft Office Suite, especially excel
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge and/or other database and tracking software preferred
