What can the latest Hamas-triggered conflict with Israel teach us?

First, it’s a reminder of the true face of terrorism.

Hamas is a jihadist group.

It’s on the terrorism lists of America and the EU.

Its declared goal is to destroy Israel and replace it with a shari’a-based society.

Second, terrorists will go to any lengths to pursue their aims.

It’s almost impossible for us to imagine, but Hamas uses women and children as human shields.

It fires rockets at Israel, hoping to hit anything and cause the maximum possible damage.

And third, Hamas is not alone.

It’s part of a larger network of groups targeting democratic societies and moderates of many faiths.

When you think Hamas, think Hezbollah, think Boko Haram, think ISIS, think al-Qaeda, and, yes, think Iran.

Bottom line: What Israel is facing is a threat not just to Israel, but to our larger world.
