The full text of this week's commentary follows:
With the coming
of the New Year, my very first thoughts are with our brave men and women in
families get together, they may well be far from home and in harm’s way.
Their mission is
to defend the cause of freedom. A grateful nation says thank you.
May 2014 bring safety
and security to our country – and to those who defend it.
And to the
millions of listeners of our weekly radio messages, now in their 13th
year, best wishes for the New Year.
May it be a year
of happiness and good health for you and allyour loved ones.
May it bring
peace and prosperity – and no more Boston Marathon bombings, no more Washington
Navy Yard massacres – for our beloved nation.
And may it
extend the global reach of democracy, respect for human dignity, and peaceful coexistence
among different racial, religious, and ethnic groups.
