We celebrate Thanksgiving today.

It's a wonderful holiday--a day for parades, family gatherings, football, and feasts.

And a day, we shouldn't forget, for giving thanks. The Pilgrims originated the holiday in 1621. They drew their inspiration from the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, when Jews give thanks for the bounty we enjoy.

After 9/11, at AJC, we felt that Thanksgiving was the perfect time not only for all Americans to express gratitude for that bounty, but also to emphasize the special blessing of America−and the ties that bind us.

Together with several partners, we created America's Table: a Thanksgiving Reader. It highlights our diverse roots and shared values as Americans.

In just a few pages, we seek to capture the unique story of America and the richness of our nation's mosaic.

Use the Reader at your holiday table. You'll be adding something important to your celebration.
