The AJC Building Bridges Award honors individuals in the greater Houston area who have demonstrated a commitment to building bridges of understanding and joint advocacy initiatives between diverse faith and ethnic groups. They prove through their efforts that our communities are stronger and more resilient when we stand together.
Mohammed Al Samawi, author of The Fox Hunt: A Refugee's Memoir of Coming to America, will offer keynote remarks. “The Fox Hunt”, was recently released by Harper Collins and will soon be adapted to film by Fox 2000, “La La Land” producer Marc Platt and Academy Award winning screenwriter Josh Singer.
Mr. Al Samawi will be joined by AJC lay leader Justin Hefter, who was part of a small group of interfaith activists that helped Al Salmawi to escape from Yemen via a daring plan engineeed on social media.

AJC Houston connects our community with AJC’s global advocacy work to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel. Our access to diplomats, elected officials, and interfaith leaders at the local level advances AJC’s broader global priorities: combating anti-Semitism, promoting Israel’s place in the world, and countering the spread of radicalism and extremism.
